Autumn Walking Festival Weekend.
12th - 14th October 2018.
This wonderful weekend, now in its 25th year, offers some fantastic walking, great talking, excellent local guides and the company and comradery of like minded friends. We have walks to suit everyones ability and plenty of local accommodation options.
Saturday Walks
All walks register at Ballymacarbry Community Centre
- B+ The Four Peaks Walk. Registration 8.30am - Bus leaves at 9am. Bus to Bay Lough car park, walking four peaks over 650m including Knockmealdowns peak at 794m, a very picturesque walk finishing at Mount Melleray Abbey. Approx 4.5 - 5 hrs - 15kms.
- B Knocknaree/Knockanaffrin Loop. 9.30am. Climbing Knocknaree & Knockatedan to Moanyrha Bog and onto Knockanaffrin Ridge taking in views of Lough Mohra & Coum Duala. On a clear day the eye can see as far as Kilkenny. Approx 4.5hrs - Distance 12kms.
- C+ Siulóid as Ghaeilge Gleann na hUidhre . Registration 10am - Bus leaves at 10.30am. Scéalta/Star na háite le gaeilgoirí áitiúla. Approx 3hrs.
- C Gap Walk. Registration 10am - Bus leaves at 10.30am. Following the ancient funeral path of Boithrín na Sochraide, returning via the Sgillogue Lakes. Approx 3hrs.
Sunday Walks
All walks register at Ballymacarbry Community Centre
- B+ Leacht na Frankee to Knocklisheen Walk. Registration 9am - Bus leaves at 9.30am. Bus to start of walk, ascending Leacht na Frankee and down to the ancient village of Glenary - crossing stream and descending down into Knocklisheen wood. Approx 4hrs - 12kms.
- B Traditional Nire Valley Walk. Registration 9.30am - Bus leaves at 10am. Taking in the sgillogue and Coumfea loughs. Approx 3hrs - 10kms.
- C Deerpark Loop. Registration 10.30am Starting at Ballymacarby Community Centre. This is a very historical walk taking in the Old Mill, Lord Ashtown's Estate, the Soup Kitchens of famine times and the ancient burial grouds of Cillsiogáin. Approx 3hrs.
Festival Dinner & Traditional Nire Valley Entertainment
After an exhilarating day of walking, relax in the company of like minded new friends and acquaintances and enjoy our atmospheric festival dinner. This will be followed by a feast of local traditional entertainment. Pre-booking is an essential requirement. Contact Ann (086)3924256.

The organisers, guides or landowners will accept no responsibility whatsoever. Proper walking clothes, boots etc., are absolutely necessary and the organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to those considered not suitably dressed and also to alter any of the walking routes, should the occasion arise.
Rates for walks €15 - 1 day, €25 - 2 days
Light refreshments will be offered after the walks.
